The top 5 tips on how to make a vision board that is effective and works

Natania HinwoodComment

Visualisation is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. Seeing is believing and creating a vision board could be what transforms your life into all that you’ve dreamed of. Vision boarding is a representation of your intentions and goals and is practiced all over the world.

Billionaire media giant and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey is a firm believer of the power of vision boards and shared this little gold nugget of advice,

‘Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.’

It’s a way of life for us at Sachi and Daphs so to get you well on your way, we’re sharing our top five tips on how to make a vision board for your homespace or workplace that is effective and works!

Tip 1 - Start from the inside, out

Identify what you stand for and define what you’re going after. Your vision board is a visual representation of your intentions and goals. It should also focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want. Take the time to understand who you are now and how you want to grow. Work out your values and deep dive into what’s important to you.

Tip 2 - Gather the goods

The fun of creating the perfect vision board continues as its time to get crafty and creative. Get your hands on magazines, photographs, fabric, feathers, any texture that is pleasing on the eye and resonates with you. Use all your senses and let your imagination run free. Think of the different areas in your life which you want to focus on. Is it family or work? Friends or relationships? Adventure or wellbeing? Perhaps money or your home?

This playful exercise doesn’t need to be done alone. Why not gather your friends and family to join in a vision board party? Celebrate this exciting beginning with your nearest and dearest, the ones who love, support and encourage you.

Tip 3 - Create your goals, quotes and affirmations

When it comes to the powerful words you choose to pin on your vision board, don’t limit your creativity to magazines or content online. Pick up some coloured textas and create something unique. I struggle drawing stick people so it doesn’t need to be on par with Picaso, it just needs to be from you! Use emotive words and stick to affirmations that align with your values and your purpose.

Tip 4 - Pick ‘the spot’

Placement is key when it comes to a vision board that works! Make sure you put it somewhere you will see it... EVERYDAY. Some of our customers like to keep it in their wardrobe, others in the bathroom and the fiercely brave keep it in their living room for all to see!

Tip 5 - Make it part of your daily routine

What’s the point of creating a beautiful, meaningful piece of art if you’re not going to look at it? Consciously take time to look at it and breathe it in, even run your fingers over it and feel the texture. Focus on different parts of it and take the time to change it up if your path is taking a different direction. Manifest your goals by incorporating your vision board into your daily practice.
